What Is the Mid-Market Rate?

A transparent benchmark computed from commercial banks' own buy and sell rates — not the National Bank of Tajikistan's official rate.

What is the mid-market rate?

The mid-market rate shown on GetRate is not NBT's official daily rate. It's the midpoint between the average buy rate and the average sell rate that commercial banks in Tajikistan actually offer, computed separately for each currency and each rate type. It's the closest thing to a 'no markup' benchmark that exists, distinct from the rate the National Bank of Tajikistan sets administratively each day.

How it's calculated

For each currency and rate type, GetRate averages the buy rates and averages the sell rates reported by eligible commercial banks that day, then takes the midpoint between those two averages. That midpoint is the mid-market rate — a real market benchmark, not a rate set by any single bank or authority.

Reading the "vs Mid-Market" column

Wherever you see a 'vs Mid-Market' column on GetRate, each row shows two figures: the buy-side delta (what it costs you to sell foreign currency to that bank) and the sell-side delta (what it costs you to buy foreign currency from that bank). On both sides, a positive percentage means the rate is less favorable to you than the mid-market benchmark; negative means it's more favorable.

The mid-market rate is computed separately for cash, non-cash, NPCR, and credit card rates because these channels naturally have different pricing — a bank's cash-counter rate and its digital transfer rate rarely match, so comparing them against one shared benchmark would be misleading.
