The Pakistani Rupee is the official currency of Pakistan, introduced in 1948 a year after independence, replacing temporary Indian Rupee notes stamped with "Pakistan". The rupee underwent decimalization in 1961. In recent years Pakistan has faced significant currency depreciation due to high inflation, current account deficits, and reliance on IMF support.
