The Moldovan Leu is the official currency of Moldova, introduced in November 1993 to replace the interim cupon. Moldova has a small, open economy heavily dependent on agriculture — particularly wine and fruit exports — and remittances from Moldovans working abroad, which represent a significant share of GDP.
