The Chinese Yuan Renminbi (meaning "people's currency") is the official currency of China, introduced in 1948 by the People's Bank of China. As the world's second-largest economy, China's currency has grown in global importance and was added to the IMF's Special Drawing Rights basket in 2016, gaining reserve currency status.
