The UAE Dirham is the official currency of the United Arab Emirates, established in 1973 to replace the Qatar and Dubai Riyal. Since 1997 it has been pegged to the US Dollar at a fixed rate of 3.6725 AED per USD. Dubai's status as a global financial hub makes the Dirham important in regional and international trade.
